There’s a NEW COMMITTEE at St. Michael’s  It’s called Peace and Justice and it is part of the Outreach Commission.  We have been asked to educate and involve all the Baptized at St. Michael’s in works of peace and justice.

During the past year we focused on our brothers and sisters in prison since they, their families and the staff who work with them are a prominent part of Canon City. We have several parishioners providing Communion Services at four of the local prisons.  Fr. Kevin presides at Mass once a month at Terrietorial.  We also have our "Backpack" Ministry which helps provide basic needs to newly released inmates.

Recently we held a parish wide letter writing campaign to our congressmen and senator in regards to the U. S. Bishops position on healthcare reform and intend to address future issues that affect our community.

We plan to begin providing information regarding Catholic teachings on Social Justice issues and hope that many will attend.  Fr. Kevin will speak after Mass on May 6, to express what he would like to see the Peace & Justice Committee accomplish.
