OLD BUSINESS
Parish Picnic - $1500 will be budgeted for the picnic in the 2009 budget. Big Burger World fed 440 persons at this year's picnic.
PPC Christmas Potluck Dinner – Gary Gunther has offered his home for the dinner, and would like to change the menu to a ham dinner (instead of turkey). There was discussion regarding the change the date, and subject to approval by Gary, council would like to change the date to Sunday, December 7th (instead of Friday, December 5th ). Mary Jager will coordinate foods to bring.
PASTORAL COMMITTEE REPORTS
Committee liaisons are reminded to keep their reports brief, with the exception of the Administration Committee report. The Council members do not have the opportunity to read those minutes before the Council meeting.
Parish Life – This group will helping the Knights of Columbus with the Youth Ministry Teaching Seminar on Saturday, October 18th. Food will be prepared and sereved for this event. Also help was requested for the reception for the Remembrance Mass on Monday evening, November 3rd. Newcomer’s Potluck will be Sunday, November 9th.
Evangelization – The San Luis trip was a wonderful experience for all who attended. Inserts in the bulletin will determine how many parishioners would be interested in Disciples in Mission during Lent.
Christian Formation – 7persons are attending the RCIA classes. 90 Students are signed up for elementary grades, and 89 youth (6-10) have signed up for classes. The Youth did a great job helping with setup and cleanup at the parish picnic.
Administration – A Statement of Activity for September, 2008 and Balance Sheet for the first quarter of the fiscal year was passed out. Father Jim went over the items, and it was noted that we are financially sound. Father also noted that we are currently paying 4.5% interest on the mortgage for the new church.
Maintenance – The town of Brookside will purchase St. Anthony Church building and grounds if they can get a grant. Approval was given to purchase a new sound system for the school gymnasium for $9300. Pre-school director Shelia Tarnaski has resigned. If no one can be found to take over the pre-school before December 17th , classes will be suspended for the winter session.
Worship – 3 new Eucharistic ministers will be commissioned on November 6th. Laurie Mendon and Ruth Lopez are working on children's and youth choirs for Christmas. Steve Anderson is working on a replacement for his position in Usher ministry. It is important to have someone from the Religious Education committee attend the Worship committee. Reminder about the November 1st Befriender activity at 9:30 a.m. at the hospital community room. There will be 3 speakers regarding ministering to older adults. ▪ A 45 member men's choir from Minnesota would like to perform during Lent at St. Michael Church. They would come on Wednesday, March 4th, and would need overnight accommodations in individual homes. We would have a potluck dinner at 4-4:30 on March 4th, then performance in the evening (7p.m.), breakfast at individual homes, and leave the next morning. Music ministry will probably coordinate. There were no objections to this plan.
Knights of Columbus – ▪ Pancake breakfast had a good turnout. ▪ Rosary was recited before Masses in October. ▪ Knights will be leading the rosary at every weekend Mass throughout the month of October.
▪ Christmas cards are now on sale. ▪ Tootsie Roll drive to benefit Starpoint was successful. ▪ Golf Tournament was also a success, and Richard thanked those who helped. Proceeds will be added to the scholarship fund.
